Or rather — it existed, but not like this. Porcelain has been used in tile form for decades. But the large-format slab version of the material that is now reshaping Montreal kitchens and bathrooms is genuinely new. A pair of matched panels can line a full-height bathroom wall from floor to ceiling with a single grout line at the centre. The design possibilities this creates are genuinely new.
